The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) has proposed to withdraw TIS 496-2526 (1983) which is a mandatory standard and replace it with TIS 496-25XX. The standard covers only thinner suitable for diluting lacquer which is the mixture of nitrocellulose, solvent and others, intended for general industrial uses, for example on furniture; it does not cover nitrocellulose lacquer thinner. This standard specifies general requirements (e.g. transparent, colourless, freedom from toxic, etc.), physical and chemical characteristics (e.g. colour, stain, dilution, nitrocellulose solubility, heating residue g/100 ml, etc.), packaging, marking and labelling, sampling and criteria for conformity, testing. The main amendment is testing methods for dilution, nitrocellulose solubility and toxic solvent.

This standard specifies general requirements (e.g. volatile transparent liquid, freedom from toxic, etc.) physical and chemical characteristics (e.g. colour, stain, dilution, nitrocellulose solubility, residue on evaporation, distillation test, etc.), packaging, marking and labelling, sampling and criteria for conformity, testing and analysis. The main amendment is the reduction of testing methods, just only dilution and nitrocellulose solubility.
