This Resolution controls the use throughout Argentina of animal growth-promoting hormone veterinary products for the production of food for human consumption. Such products are to be strictly controlled and the veterinary pharmacies, distributors and veterinary companies which import and market them are required to make their dispatch conditional upon presentation of a veterinary prescription, which is to be filed in their records pending the respective inspection.

Products Covered: Natural, synthetic or semi-synthetic growth-promoting hormones with androgenic, oestrogenic or progestogenic action for animals for human consumption.

This Resolution prohibits the use throughout national territory of pharmaceutical products and inputs for veterinary use the formulation of which contains nitrofurans (or the salts thereof). The registration of the veterinary products and inputs specified in the Resolution is cancelled. The use of nitrofuran-based products is only authorized for topical use in ornamental pets, horses and other species not intended for human consumption.

The Resolution cancels veterinary products and inputs containing chloramphenicol within Bolivia; such products can therefore not be imported into the country. It does not apply to chloramphenicol-based products for collyria and topical use in dogs, cats, ornamental birds, horses and other species not intended for human consumption.
