Toluene diisocyanate is used as a chemical intermediate in the production of polyurethane foams, elastomers, and coatings; paints; varnishes; wire enamels; sealants; adhesives; and binders. It is also used as a cross-linking agent in the manufacture of nylon polymers.  So, for protection of human health and environment, the BIS standard of Toluene Diisocyanate needs to be made mandatory.The locally manufactured or imported Toluene diisocyanate shall conform to the Indian Standard IS 17916 : 2022, and shall bear the standard mark under license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per Scheme-II of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018. The use of standard mark is governed by the provisions of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. Bureau of Indian Standards shall be the certifying and enforcing authority.
