The notified draft Mexican Official Standard sets forth the minimum requirements for the processing of herbal remedies marketed in Mexico to ensure that consumers are supplied with good quality products. The draft Standard is binding throughout Mexican territory on all establishments engaged in the manufacture, storage and distribution of herbal remedies for human use which are marketed in Mexico.

The notified Technical Regulation establishes the analytical tests which must be carried out by the regulatory authority to verify the quality of natural medicines for human use. The provisions of this Regulation apply to all natural medicines for human use which are imported into or manufactured in Central American countries. The Regulation guidelines are mandatory for all natural medicines the pharmaceutical form of which is administered by any route other than ophthalmic or parenteral.

3rd amendment to the Mandatory Standard SI 1 part 2 dealing with sulphate-resisting Portland cements. The Regulation implements for the first time Article 15(5) of Regulation (EC) No 882/2004, by establishing a system for the increased level of controls of certain feed and food of non animal origin for which emerging or known risks require an increased level of controls at the point of entry into the EU. The Regulation establishes - also for the first time - a list of products which, on the basis of information available (RASFF notifications, reports by the Commission's Food and Veterinary Office (FVO), information provided by Member States, by third countries, by the European Food Safety Authority) are to be submitted to such increased level of controls by the Member States' competent authorities when entering the Community. It is to be noted that the list of products will be reviewed and amended as appropriate before the entry into application of the new control system (expected in early 2010); and that subsequently, the list will be regularly reviewed (quarterly) and updated as appropriate.
