In document G/SPS/N/EEC/289 dated 2 August 2006, the European Communities notified a Proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market [2006/0136/COD, COM(2006)388]. This proposal follows the procedure established by Article 251 of the EC Treaty (Co-decision). The notified regulation prohibits the registration and the authorization for the manufacture, import, commercialization and use of products destined for animal feed containing the chemical substance gentian violet (Crystal Violet), used as an antifungal additive. Registrations of gentian violet, granted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply are hereby cancelled.

To amend the Imported Game, Meat and Poultry Regulations by : (a) requiring import permit/licence and health certificate for poultry eggs (including shell eggs and egg yolks, but excluding egg or egg yolk in liquid or powder form) imported for human consumption; and (b) requiring importers and distributors of game, meat, poultry and poultry eggs (including shell eggs and egg yolks, but excluding egg or egg yolk in liquid or powder form) to register with the FEHD before importing or distributing such food.

As of 1 January 2009, the State of California will prohibit the manufacture, sale, or distribution in commerce of certain toys and child care articles, if those products contain types of phthalates in concentrations exceeding 1/10 of 1%. Manufacturers would be required to use the least toxic alternative when replacing phthalates in their products and would be prohibited from replacing phthalates with certain carcinogens and reproductive toxicants.

This technical regulation sets out the physical and chemical specifications, characterising the safety of the abovementioned perfumery and cosmetic products, as well as the marking, packaging, storing, transportation requirements and conformity assessment procedures for the perfumery and cosmetics.

The State of Connecticut intends to limit emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the use of adhesives, sealants, primers and solvents. The proposed regulation achieves VOC reductions through sale and manufacture restrictions that limit the VOC content of specified adhesives, sealants and primers sold in the State of Connecticut and use restrictions that apply primarily to commercial/industrial operations. All interested persons are invited to comment on the proposal
