Establishes the following phytosanitary requirements and procedures for exports of wood to the Republic of Paraguay: 1. All exporters must be registered with SENASAG. 2. The wood must undergo one of the following phytosanitary treatments, depending on its type of finish: WOOD FOR PARQUET FLOORING: The wood drying process is an accepted phytosanitary treatment. The drying temperature must be between 55 and 60C. The treatment ends when the moisture content of the wood reaches 8 per cent. The wood must be wrapped in plastic that is 20 microns thick and stored on pallets. The storage area for treated wood must be isolated using acid-resistant netting or some sort of infrastructure that guarantees phytosanitary protection, in order to prevent the treated product from becoming reinfested. 6. Description of content: (cont'd) SAWN WOOD: Treatment with methyl bromide (MB). The following dosage rates and exposure times must be used: Temperature Dosage rate (g/m3) Minimum concentration readings (g/m3) at: 30 min 2 h 4 h 16 h 21°C or above 48 36 24 17 14 16°C or above 56 42 28 20 17 11°C or above 64 48 32 22 19 Treatment with aluminium phosphide: Temperature (°C) Dosage (g a.i./m3) Exposure time (hours) 16 – 25°C 10.0 72 Treatment with aluminium phosphide must take place in a purpose-built chamber or, failing that, under a plastic covering on a solid concrete floor. 3. Once the heat or chemical treatment is complete, the product must be shipped within a maximum of 15 days. If it is not shipped within this time-limit, the wood must once again undergo fumigation treatment in accordance with point 2(b). Sawn wood consignments must not contain any bark. 4. Once the methyl bromide or aluminium phosphide treatment has been carried out, the product (wood) must remain under phytosanitary protection. 5. The means of transport used must meet phytosanitary protection requirements (covered vehicles) and be sealed before dispatch, thus complying with the above-mentioned requirements for entry into the Republic of Paraguay.
