Distribution date: 25 January 2016

The aim of the notified Emergency Mexican Official Standard is to regulate and promote the efficient development of petrochemical transport, storage and distribution activities. ; ;Given that the production, transport, storage, distribution and first-hand sales of petroleum and gas products used as basic industrial raw materials (basic petrochemicals, including ethane, propane, butane, pentane, hexane, heptane, carbon black feedstock, naphtha and methane derived from hydrocarbons obtained from deposits located in national territory) and intended for use as raw materials in petrochemical industrial processes may be carried out by individuals, the quality specifications for these products need to be regulated. Furthermore, the industries that use these products need to be certain that the petrochemicals they purchase possess the qualitative characteristics required for the industrial processes for which they are intended. ; ;The urgent nature of this Standard reflects the need to prevent a regulatory vacuum, as of 2016, for persons subject to the obligation under Articles 78 and 79 of the Hydrocarbons Law concerning the quality specifications for petrochemicals and the related testing, sampling and verification methods. ; ;

Products Covered: Petrochemicals (tariff headings 2701 to 2901.10) ;

Notice of Modification to the List of Permitted Sweeteners to Enable the Use of Rebaudioside M as a Sweetener in Various Unstandardized Foods - Reference Number: NOM/ADM-0065

Product Image

Distribution date: 21 January 2016 | Final date for Comment: 29 March 2016

Health Canada's Food Directorate completed a detailed safety assessment of a food additive submission seeking approval for the use of steviol glycosides containing the steviol glycoside "rebaudioside M" (Reb M) as a high-intensity sweetener in the same food categories and under the same conditions of use as the currently-permitted steviol glycosides. Reb M is one of a number of steviol glycosides that are naturally present in the stevia leaf, and already approved for use as a food additive in Canada. As no safety concerns were raised through Health Canada's assessment the Department has enabled the food additive use of steviol glycosides containing the steviol glycoside rebaudioside M described in the information document below by updating the List of Permitted Sweeteners (http://hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/securit/addit/list/9-sweetener-edulcorant-eng.php), effective 15 January 2016. The purpose of this communication is to publically announce the Department's decision in this regard and to provide the appropriate contact information for any inquiries or for those wishing to submit any new scientific information relevant to the safety of this food additive. Health Canada's Food Directorate is committed to reviewing any new scientific information on the safety in use of any food additive, including steviol glycosides containing Rebaudioside M. Anyone wishing to submit new scientific information on the use of this additive or to submit any inquiries may do so in writing, by regular mail or electronically.
