The standard specifies the terms and definitions, product classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, package and label for substances that are harmful to the human body and the environment in all kinds of architectural wall coatings. In this standard, limitation requirements are put forward for the following harmful substances: volatile organic compounds (VOC), formaldehyde, four kinds of derivatives of benzene, total lead, soluble heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Hg), sum of  alkylphenol polyethoxylates, sum of phthalate esters, sum of halohydrocarbons, sum of glycol ethers and esters.

In this standard, for water-based floor coatings, volatile organic compounds (VOC), free formaldehyde, sum of four kinds of derivatives of benzene, sum of glycol ether ester, sum of free TDI and HDI, four kinds of soluble heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Cr, Hg) are limited. For solvent-based floor coatings and solvent-free floor coatings, VOC, benzene, sum of methyl benzene , dimethyl benzene and ethyl benzene, sum of free TDI and HDI, sum of glycol ether ester, six kinds of phthalates and four kinds of soluble heavy metals(Pb, Cd, Cr. Hg) are limited.
